Congress providing outside support to AAP What it Means? Why congress is supporting AAP ?
Denying the win to BJP, they might also think that AAP can dent BJP's vote share in 2014 by gaining just enough seats to stop BJP from reaching 272. Also, recently i have noticed that AAP took out some sheen from Modi's rallies. Congress knows it is losing in any case, why not try to create a situation where BJP is not powerful enough to form the gov alone and creates a shitty gov with lots of coalitions. They can always take away the support after losing in 2014 after 6 months.
They are hitting(or trying to hit) two birds with one stone...
1) Prevents BJP from forming a government.
2) Makes AAP compromise on their principles.
3) They are probably hoping AAP does some n00b mistakes which Congress can use as reason to withdraw support and call for fresh elections, which will become a 2-way contest between BJP and Congress, with AAP winding up with a Congress like seat count or less.
After being virtually wiped out in last elections, Congress would not want to risk a re-poll.
Ideologically, AAP is not that different from Congress - both swear by secularism, populism & left-of-center socialism. Sure you might critique on whether secularism/socialism is good of if these parties are only secular/socialist in name, but that is besides the issue.
Congress will also expect to have some leverage on how/whether its ex MLAs are prosecuted for corruption - though whether they would be successful on that, is for us to see.
Lastly, a successful AAP would be seen as party which would steal anti-Congress vote away from BJP. Distribution of those votes can help Congress in next parliamentary elections.
