I was taking classes in my room with all my classmates and we were entirely unaware of the incident that just happened in my department's washroom.
Though I didn't listen to her scream when her eyes caught that phone capturing her in the washroom but still looking at the face of the victim we all were so disheartened, disappointed, terrified, I can add 'n' number of objectives here but still the emotion of the girl at that moment would not be justified.
The major drawback was the washroom itself. There is both ladies and gents washroom side by side with a ventilation kind of thing which is "open" and connects both. This led to a dirty minded man let his phone with camera open and recording through the ventilation when the girl was inside. Incidentally she was able to see that phone looking at her and she ran outside screaming. She saw the culprit. Also we had one more witness, PhD scholar whose room was just beside that washroom who spotted the culprit.
I salute the girl for she didn't hide this incident and reported in the department office. Police was called and the incident was reported. But to our exclaim the culprit (who was spotted by the girl) was not arrested instead he planned his classmates "auxiliary notebook" in the gents washroom which made the police to arrest him (Although its so stupid that a culprit would leave a proof against him at the place of crime and that too a notebook in washroom). We came to know that the real culprit had some sort of support (may be political) so we all then decided to form a bunch and try to pressurise police people to take an action against the culprit. Even the eye-witness (PhD scholar) took a U-turn and refused to identify the culprit.
We all, the students of Department of Chemistry, Delhi University gathered in front of the nearby police station. Thankfully the student who was innocent was released but FIR "against the culprit" was not filed.
The funny part of the story is that the same incident happened two years back in the same department but still the gap between the two washrooms is not filled.
Why are people so ignorant? Security matters a lot.
I cannot point at the student who did all this when he didn't have any sense of regret on his face. Money and power cannot give you the license of doing anything and everything you want but it will save you if you do anything, Right?
That's the tragedy of society which kills the innocent smiles on girls' faces.
