Does New Year really hold any Significance ?

I have a genuine question.
"What does New Year really imply?"
And here are few questions for you to ponder upon:
Is making resolutions for the entire year is really that important? Is wishing friends and relatives at 12 O' clock holds any significance? Would it make any difference to somebody's life if you forget to wish them the "New Year"? Does partying all night really increase your happiness?

After the New Year parties when I come across the news of Drunk driving, rapes, Accidents, I really feel depressed about the mentality of today's youth.

New Year celebrations is all about trying to live life in a better way. You may differ in what I say. But it cannot be taken as getting drunk partying all night and then hitting one or two people from your car or rape a girl after getting drunk. Hope you now can get the actual meaning of what you called "New Year Celebrations".
